The IOMOM White Paper represents a very useful attempt to design an accurate and updated map of the state of oncology services in Italy. Its use, therefore, by the Ministry of Health will make it easier, and above all incisive, the action of the Ministry itself in improving and correcting, where necessary, performance levels as well as services and organization.
Obviously, this commitment will focus on the implementation of the National Cancer Plan's program focusing on prevention (primary, secondary and tertiary), on the "taking charge" of the cancer patient throughout the course of the disease with an active involvement of all the professional figures involved. in the process, as well as in the development of a palliative care network and pain therapy in order to achieve the goal of a "pain free territory".
But the most ambitious goal will be to create a network of all Regional Oncology Networks (Network of networks) that allows a sharing of all information useful to provide higher standards of care to all cancer patients, regardless of the place where reside.
Furthermore, the AIOM White Paper will help in providing relevant information on the state of the structures and in the technological park, which can be integrated with the National Cancer Plan, allowing a more effective intervention by the Ministry on the allocation of resources and programming of the most appropriate interventions. . The data available in the White Paper will allow us to define not only the potential for assistance, but also the scientific ones, since clinical and translational research is another of the main objectives of the Ministry of Health in order to make our country more and more competitive at international level.
